Gypsy jazz, or jazz Manouche music, as it is sometimes called, is a style that originated in Paris France, in the 1930s. Played on accoustic guitar in a Gypsy Jazz band
I've enjoyed this type of jazz from the first time I saw a gypsy band at a festival in Buren in The Netherlands in 1974. About 10 years ago I started to play in this style exclusively and recruited my friend John to form a Jazz Manouche ensemble. My instrument was made in Germany by Stephan Hahl.
John is deeply rooted in the Jazz tradition. He is excellent in American Bebop. About ten years ago he switched to Swing (an earlier jazz style) and he too became a dedicated Jazz Manouche Player. His guitar is French made by Maurice Dupont in Paris.
notice Django's amazing dexterity on guitar with his compromised left hand.
